Song of Ascents - Psalm 122, Verse 5

I am amazed when I think how long centuries before, You revealed Your purposes and plans concerning what You are doing through Yeshua, Thy only begotten Son. As David wrote this Psalm, he prophesied of the time when a King from his line would rule forever. He foretold of the One who would be raised from the dead and seated at Thy right hand in the heavenly realms, far above all rule and authority; power and dominion. But what David also prophesied when he wrote of "thrones" (in plural) was the bride of the Messiah who would reign by His side. She too would sit on a throne and would reign with her Lord.

I praise You for Thou art setting up thrones of justice and the Son of David would reign with His bride by His side in righteousness and justice. For it was not to angels that You have subjected the world to come, for Thou hast purposed that she will be higher than the angels, crowned with glory and honour. As Paul wrote elsewhere, "Do you not know that you will judge angels?"

O Adonai, my eyes are fixed firmly at the finish line. I truly can't wait for that day when I too will receive what Thou hast prepared for those who love You. Thou repeatedly encouraged the churches saying, "He who overcomes, I will give authority over the nations;" and again, "I will give the right to sit with Me on My throne; just as I overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne." May we therefore have an ear, to hear what the Spirit says to the churches.

Song of Ascents comprises of a collection of 15 psalms from Psalm 120 to 134. While there are a number of suggestions as to what the phrase, “Song of Ascents” could mean, one thought is that these psalms were sung by Israel as they went up to Jerusalem to celebrate the three annual feasts that the Lord had commanded (Lev. 23; Ex. 23:14).

We have just concluded the Feast of Unleavened Bread which started on the 15th day of the first month of the Biblical calendar (or on the evening of March 30, 2018). During this seven day feast, Israel went up to Jerusalem singing these Songs of Ascent. We have now completed 20 days of counting up to the fifty days to Shavuot (Lev. 23:15-16), the next feast day of the Lord.

My purpose of posting a verse from these psalms each day (during these days between the Feast of Unleavened Bread and the Feast of Weeks (Shavuot) which in Greek is called Pentecost) is so that we too—if you are a son (or daughter) of Israel, even though you once may have been a Gentile but now through the great grace shown to us by the Father and through the blood of the Messiah Yeshua—can pilgrim into the presence of the Most High God (for we are the temple of God and the Holy Spirit dwells in us) singing these psalms to Him who sits on the throne (in heaven and in our hearts).

Join with me then O son of Israel and let us exalt the name of our God together as we pilgrim on His appointed feast days just as He commanded.
